Fresh Mountain Air While searching for a location that would serve as an isolation ward for patients affected by a potential SARS epidemic,the Kyperounda Sanatorium in the Troodos mountain range which is the highest range on the Island. Kyperounda’s history in the 1970s and 1980s, the sanatorium organized visits from the former East Germany and parts of Scandinavia, where asthmatic children were brought for several weeks at a time. With the fresh mountain air, these children often found temporary relief from their respiratory symptoms, with beneficial effects often continuing for a while upon returning to their home countries. |
